The GSD remembers Harry G. Robinson III MCPUD ’73, FAIA, AICP, who passed away on June 13, 2025, at the age of 83. A dedicated leader in the design community, Harry received the 2024 GSD Alumni Award for his decades of service.

Harry was the former chairman of the US Commission of Fine Arts and served three terms as chair of the District of Columbia Board of Architecture. He also served as president of the National Architectural Accrediting Board and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). His significant contributions to architectural education continue to be felt.

Harry had deep ties to Howard University, where he served as a Professor of Urban Design and Dean Emeritus at the Howard University School of Architecture and Design. He founded the University’s Career Discovery Program in Architecture and the African American Architect Initiative and co-authored a history of Howard’s campus, The Long Walk, with Hazel Edwards MAUD ’89.
