Our Region and Opportunity: DFW City Planners Forum

We live and work in a region experiencing massive growth. The North Central Council of Governments has forecasted the Dallas/Fort Worth population to grow by over 3.4 million people over the next 20 years. If you are counting, that’s more than the City of Chicago, and we are already ahead of projections. Our city planners deal with this growth every day by devising strategies to best accommodate it within their specific municipal context. At this event you will hear from the directors of planning for the cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, and Plano in a moderated discussion. Panelists will discuss the opportunities present to best leverage this growth to achieve a more interesting and competitive DFW experience as we compete on the world stage for human and investment capital.

Panel speakers will include Peer Chacko, Director of Planning and Urban Design at the City of Dallas; Randle Harwood, Planning and Development Director at the City of Fort Worth; and Christina Day, Director of Planning at the City of Plano. Paris Rutherford MAUD ’93, Principal of Catalyst Urban Development, will moderate the panel. Jessie Marshall Zarazaga GSD ’92, Fellow of the Institute and Program Director of the MA in Sustainability and Development at SMU, will provide introductory remarks.
