Paul Mok MArch ’18 Named 2024 GSD Alumni Mentor of the Year
Paul Mok MArch ’18 has been named the 2024 GSD Alumni Mentor of the Year. Mok is an architect and artist based in Brooklyn, New York. An alumni mentor through Connect GSD Career, Mok draws on his global experiences and moments of personal struggle to create honest and supportive mentorship relationships. Through mentoring, Mok has deepened his own self-awareness and encourages students to view mentors as peers invested in their growth.
“I decided to become a mentor because I have been shown again and again how connected we all are. I have received help from total strangers during difficult times. I have also traveled and worked in different countries, often in cities where I knew nobody, but I would be met with tremendous hospitality from the locals. These experiences made me realize that the world is not an innate object, but something, or rather someone, that I can reach out to and have a personal connection with,” shared Mok.
“Being part of both the architecture and art communities in New York has further shown me the value of open, honest dialogue. While architects can sometimes be quite guarded, I’ve found that artists are often very willing to share their struggles and support one another. That spirit of connection inspired me to get involved as a mentor.”
