Optional Activity
Saturday Afternoon Panel: Principled Design 3:00 – 4:30 pm
A Discussion with Women in Practice

Location: Miami Center for Architecture and Design
100 NE 1st Ave Miami

There is a great diversity in range of how design is practiced. What principles and values, such as aesthetic or social ones, underpin these different practices? In the field of urban planning, theorists including Henry Mayhew, Lewis Mumford, Herbert Gans, and Jane Jacobs, have integrated moral principles into urban planning, such as the aim to foster inclusive and equitable societies. This panel assembles women who practice to discuss what values they hold dear, and how these principles, if at all, frame their approach to design, implementation and practice. This panel was conceived by Caroline James MArch ‘14 and Jaya Kader MArch ‘88, and advised by Denise Scott Brown.

Participants include Pat Bosch, Louise Braverman FAIA, Carie Penabad MAUD ’98, Lourdes Solera FAIA, and Caroline James MArch ’14 (moderator).

Sponsors: AIA Miami Center for Architecture and Design and GSD Women in Design
