HAPI Webinar Series: Jack Spengler and Jianxiang Huang, “Assessing Human Comfort in Urban Public Places in China”

Content research is focused on the modeling and measurement of thermal comfort in public places. The model, CityComfort+ model, can be used to assess factors of building massing, shading, vegetation on radiant heat balance, and the sensation of human comfort. Using climate forcing methods, future conditions of public places can be used to evaluate alternative designs.

During this webinar, Dr. Jack Spengler, Professor, Harvard School of Public Health and Jianxiang Huang, Assistant Professor, Urban Planning and Design, University of Hong Kong will review case studies and publications: assessing the relationship between efficient energy use and levels of resident satisfaction in China, and exploring living at high densities, including the psychological, health, and behavioral impact of urban lifestyle in China. This webinar is presented as part of the Health and Places Initiative (HAPI), a joint project of the Harvard Graduate School of Design (HGSD) and the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) to create a forum for understanding the multiple issues that face cities in light of rapid urbanization and an aging population worldwide.
