Dean Sarah M. Whiting, GSD faculty, and local GSD alumni gathered as Dean Whiting delivered her lecture, “The Campus as City,” at Hongik University.
Architectural historian Kurt Forster wrote, “Lasting institutions like colleges and universities invoke a social rationale for their physical installations, a rationale that speaks to their overarching purposes and helps elucidate the ideas behind their operations.” University campuses are essentially small cities, comprised of buildings, landscapes, and infrastructure for diverse constituents. This talk will take a close look at some of the urban experiments that campuses have offered up over the years.
