ON THE EXHIBITION:
New fields and methods of research are being developed to understand the complexity and dynamics of contemporary urban environments. Different media can serve as tools for knowledge production, whether archival documents, digital records, photography, cartography, architectural drawing, graphic design, text, animation, film or video. The Harvard Mellon Urban Initiative, a multiyear project sponsored by Harvard University and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is investigating interdisciplinary urban research methods through a broad use of media. ‘Urban Intermedia: City, Archive, Narrative’ presents projects developed by scholars and designers that explore new approaches to the study of urban environments, societies and cultures in Berlin, Boston, Istanbul, and Mumbai through intermedia visual narratives.
