Join Alumni Council member Paris Rutherford MAUD ’93 and fellow GSD alumni for a hard hat tour of the growing development in Rowlett, TX followed by lunch at the award-winning Bankhead Brewery.

Village of Rowlett is a mixed-use, transit-oriented development that expands the footprint of the historic center of Rowlett, TX.  It is the result of a public/private partnership and a form-based code set up by the City, was recently named best new development in North Texas by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (CLIDE Award) and is a finalist for the Urban Land Institute’s Vision Award.

The 15-acre development displays an “agrarian urban” design approach placing a range of different building and housing types on a walkable street system centered around reclaimed wetlands and a central community garden.  Building architecture transitions from mixed-use loft buildings on Main Street to three story residential buildings with live/work units at the streetscape, and farm-house apartments on the community green.  It combines a bungalow court along the wetlands with rental townhomes that face the streets to provide a seamless connection to the surrounding older single-family neighborhood.

The 20 buildings in this village are at various stages of construction including being complete and occupied, in finish-out stage, and at various phases of framing.  The iconic rooftop sign is in place and the development frames the existing historic water tower and veterans’ park.
